Hadith 3573

(1) The statement: Overlook the slips of respectable people, etc.: “Respectability” refers to a person’s moral state and actions. It means those with integrity and piety. The address is to Imams and others with rights, as if fearing changing times and people’s tendency to favor the elite by overlooking or concealing, even neglecting prescribed punishments due to fear or greed. He ordered enforcing punishments on them as on commoners. If overlooking occurs, it should be in non-punishable matters. Gathered from Al-Lam‘at and Al-Mirqat.

(١) قوله: أقيلوا ذوي الهيئات إلخ: الهيئة: صورة الشيء. والمراد هنا الحالة التي يكون الإنسان عليها من الأخلاق، والأفعال. والمراد ذو المرؤات وأصحاب الورع، والخطاب مع الأئمة وغيرهم من ذوي الحقوق، كأنه خاف تغير الزمان وميل الناس إلى المداهنة مع الأكابر في التجاوز والستر إلى أن يتركوا إقامة الحدود عليهم وعلى من يلازمهم، خوفًا منهم أو طمعًا فيهم. فأمرهم أن يقيموا الحدود عليهم كما يقيمون على السوقة، فإن وقع العفو فليقع فيما لا يوجب الحد.
