It is narrated from Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "I sometimes enter the prayer intending to prolong it, but when I hear the crying of a child, I shorten it because I know the distress his mother feels due to his crying."
