Narrated Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): "Whoever seeks to follow a good example should follow those who have passed away, for the living are not safe from trials. Those who were companions of Muhammad (ﷺ) were the best of this nation: they had the purest hearts, the deepest knowledge, and the least affectation. Allah chose them for the companionship of His Prophet and for the establishment of His religion. Recognize their virtue, follow their example, and cling to as much as you can of their character and way of life, for they were on the straight path."
