English

Al-Subay’ ibn Ma‘bad al-Taghlibi said: “I declared my intention for both (Hajj and ‘Umrah) together. ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘You have been guided to the Sunnah of your Prophet (ﷺ).’” [Narrated by Abu Dawud, Nasa’i, and Ibn Majah] It is narrated through other chains and authenticated by Dar al-Qutni, who said: “The strongest chain is the hadith of Mansur and Al-A‘mash from Abu Wa’il from Al-Subay’ from ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).” In a narration by Tahawi, he said: “I declared my intention for both together. When I passed by Salman ibn Rabi‘ah and Zayd ibn Sawhan, they criticized me. When I met ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), I mentioned this to him. He said, ‘They were wrong. You have been guided to the Sunnah of your Prophet (ﷺ).’”

Note 1

They were wrong. You have been guided to the Sunnah of your Prophet (ﷺ).

(1) His statement: “They were wrong. You have been guided to the Sunnah of your Prophet (ﷺ).” Tahawi commented: “His statement, ‘You have been guided to the Sunnah,’ after saying, ‘They were wrong,’ indicates that this was a confirmation, not merely a supplication.”
