Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Allah created Israfil, and since the day He created him, he has been standing with his feet aligned 1, not raising his gaze. Between him and the Lord, Blessed and Exalted, are seventy lights, none of which he could approach without being burned.”
Allah created Israfil, standing with his feet aligned since the day He created him
(1) His statement: “Allah created Israfil, standing with his feet aligned since the day He created him”: The meaning is that Allah created Israfil standing with his feet aligned from the beginning of his creation. “Not raising his gaze” means not looking to the heaven above him out of reverence, or not lifting his sight from the Preserved Tablet out of fear. His statement: “seventy lights” refers to the lights of the veils. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
