Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was among the best of people in character. One day, he sent me on an errand, and I said: “By Allah, I will not go 1,” but in my heart, I intended to go as the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded. I went out until I passed by children playing in the market. Then, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) grabbed the back of my neck from behind. I looked at him, and he was laughing. He said: “O little Anas! Did you go where I sent you?” I said: “Yes, I am going, O Messenger of Allah.” [Narrated by Muslim]
The Sheikh said in Al-Lama’at: Anas’s statement “I will not go” was said in his youth when he was not yet accountable, and it was only outwardly, while inwardly he intended to obey the command.

(1) His statement: “I will not go”: meaning with my tongue. His statement: “until I passed by children, etc.”: It appears he stopped with them to play or watch, hence he said: “Then the Messenger of Allah grabbed, etc.” His statement: “the back of my neck”: with a short qaf, meaning the nape. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

(۱) قوله : لا أذهب أي بلساني. وقوله: «حتى أمر على صبيان إلخ والظاهر أنه وقف عندهم إما للعب أو للتفرج ولذا قال: فإذا رسول الله له إلخ. وقوله: «بقفاي والقفا بالقصر مؤخر العنق. التقطته من «المرقاة».

حضرت شیخ عبدالحق محدث دہلوی رحمۃ اللہ علیہ نے لمعات میں فرمایا: حضرت انس رضی اللہ عنہ کا کہنا ’’میں نہیں جاؤں گا‘‘ ان سے ان کے بچپن میں جبکہ وہ غیر مکلّف تھے صادر ہوا، حالانکہ ان کے دل میں تھا کہ وہ اس کام کے لئے جائیں گے۔

(11) قوله: لا اذهب (بخدا میں نہیں جاؤں گا) یعنی اپنی زبان سے کہا: قوله حتى امر على صبيان الخ (یہاں تک کہ بازار میں چند بچے کھیل رہے تھے)۔ (حاشیہ پچھلے صفحہ سے) ظاہر ہے کہ حضرت انس رضی اللہ عنہ بچوں کے پاس کھیل کیلئے یا لطف اندوزی کے لئے ٹھہر گئے، اسی لئے کہا اچانک حضور صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے میری گردن پکڑلی۔ قوله: بقفاي (میری گردن پکڑلی) قفا الف مقصورہ کے ساتھ گردن کا آخری حصہ۔ (مرقات)۔
