Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) speak about the pause 1 in revelation, saying: “While I was walking, I heard a sound from the sky. I raised my gaze toward the sky and saw the angel who came to me in Hira sitting on a throne between the sky and the earth. I was terrified of him and fell to the ground. I went to my family and said: ‘Cover me, cover me, cover me.’ Then Allah revealed: ‘O you who are cloaked, arise and warn’ to His statement ‘and shun impurity’ [Al-Muddaththir: 1-5]. Then the revelation intensified and continued.”

(1) His statement: “about the pause in revelation”: meaning its interruption for days, then its continuous resumption. His statement: “I was terrified”: with a damma on the jim, kasra on the hamza, and sukun on the tha, meaning I was frightened and afraid. His statement: “fell”: with an open waw, meaning I fell or descended. His statement: “arise and warn”: meaning inform people by warning of punishment and giving glad tidings to believers of rewards, using “warn” to suffice due to the prevalence of disbelievers and evildoers. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

(۱) قوله : عن فترة الوحي: أي انقطاعه أياما، ثم حصوله متتابعا. وقوله: فجئثت بضم جيم وكسر همز وسكون مثلثة، أي فزعت وخفت. وقوله: «حتى هويت بفتح الواو، أي سقطت ونزلت. وقوله: «فأنذر» أي فاعلم الناس بالتخويف عن العذاب وبشر المؤمنين بأنواع الثواب، فهو من باب الاكتفاء والاقتصار على الإنذار بناء على غلبة الكفار وعموم الفجار. كذا في «المرقاة».

(22) قوله: عن فترة الوحى (یعنی وحی کے چند دن رک جانے کے اور پھر اس کے مسلسل آنے کے بارے میں)۔ قوله: فجئثت (میں گڑھے میں ڈال دیا گیا) جیم کو پیش ہمزہ کو زیر اور ثاء کو جزم ہے (ماضی مجہول واحد متکلم) یعنی میں فکر مند اور خوف زدہ ہو گیا۔ قوله حتى هويت اس میں ”واو“ کو زیر (فتح) ہے یعنی میں زمین پر آگیا اور اتر گیا۔ قوله: ”فَأَنْذِرْ“ یعنی لوگوں کو عذاب کا خوف دلا کر آگاہ کرو اور مومنین کو مختلف قسم کے ثواب کی خوشخبری دو۔ یہاں صرف کافروں اور بدکار لوگوں کے غلبہ کی وجہ سے ڈرانے پر اکتفا کیا گیا یا اختصار سے کام لیا گیا۔ (مرقات)۔
