ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے آپ فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ
علیہ وآلہ وسلم ارشاد فرمائے ہیں کہ جب تم نمازِ جنازہ پڑھو تو (نماز جنازہ میں) مردہ کے لئے بہت
خلوص سے دعاء مغفرت کرو۔) نمازِ جنازہ میت کی دعاء مغفرت کے لئے ہی ہے، اس میں سورہ فاتحہ
یا قرآن کی کوئی اور سورت کا پڑھنا نہیں ہے، جیسے اور نمازوں میں ہے۔
اس حدیث کی روایت ابوداؤد اور ابن ماجہ نے کی ہے۔

(1) His statement: "When you pray over the deceased..." This means that reciting the Qur'an is neither obligatory nor recommended in the funeral prayer according to us, i.e., with the intention of recitation. However, if one recites Al-Fatihah with the intention of praise, it is permissible. This is mentioned in Al-Ashbah. The basis for this is this hadith, as stated in Umdat ar-Ri'ayah.
