Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A man was with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when his son came. He kissed him and seated him on his lap. Then his daughter came, and he seated her beside him. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Could you not have treated them equally?”

Note 1
(1) The statement: Could you not have treated them equally?—At-Tahawi said: Does this not show that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) wanted him to treat his son and daughter equally and not favor one over the other? This is evidence for what we mentioned regarding gifts.
Note 1
