English

Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Allah, Blessed and Exalted, commanded me to love four, and informed me that He loves them.” It was said: “O Messenger of Allah, name them for us 1.” He said: “Ali is among them—he said this three times—Abu Dharr, Al-Miqdad, and Salman. He commanded me to love them and informed me that He loves them.”

Note 1

name them for us

(1) The statement “name them for us”: Meaning so we may love them too, following Allah and His Messenger’s love. The statement “he said this three times”: Indicating Ali’s superiority or that his love equals that of the three. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

Note 1
