Samurah ibn Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Asking is like scratching one’s face. Whoever wishes may keep his face, and whoever wishes may scratch it, except when a man asks a ruler or in a matter where he has no alternative.”
