Zujajat al-Masabih 230Volume 1

English

It is narrated from him (Abu Huraira, RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, if religion were hanging from the Pleiades, a man from Persia would attain it." [Agreed upon] Al-Tabarani narrated a similar version from Qays ibn Sa'd ibn Ubadah, with a slight variation: "If knowledge were hanging, a man from Persia would attain it." Al-Hafiz al-Suyuti said: "This hadith, narrated by the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim], is the foundation of the authenticity upon which Abu Hanifah is indicated. There is no doubt in its correctness." In the margin notes of al-Shabr Malisi on al-Mawahib, the Shami scholar (a student of al-Hafiz al-Suyuti) said: "Our Shaykh has confirmed that Abu Hanifah is indeed the one intended in this hadith, and there is no doubt about it, for no one from the descendants of Persia has reached the level of knowledge he attained."
