Note 2
If a slave flees to idolatry
(2) The statement: If a slave flees to idolatry: Meaning he apostatizes from Islam or joins idol-worshippers. If he flees to idol-worshippers, it is evident he reverts to idolatry, so the penalty applies, which is the permissibility of killing him. If he remains Muslim, it is likely meant as a severe warning. So it is in Bahl al-Majhud.
Note 3
His blood becomes permissible
(3) The statement: His blood becomes permissible: Meaning if someone kills him, they are not liable, even if he did not apostatize. So it is in Al-Lam‘at. It is stated in Al-Mirqat: There is no liability on his killer, and if he apostatized, it is even more so. Al-Tayyibi said: Even if he did not apostatize, he did what makes his blood permissible by joining idol-worshippers and abandoning the land of Islam. It was previously stated: Their fires should not be visible to one another.
Note 2
