Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "1 If three are traveling, let them appoint one of them as their leader."

(1) The statement: "let them appoint one of them as their leader": Meaning, let them make one of them the leader to facilitate resolving disputes and differences among them, and the command is for recommendation. As stated in (Badhl al-Majhud).
