Abdullah ibn Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: 2 I obtained a sack of fat on the day of Khaybar and held it, saying: “I won’t give anyone any of this today.” I turned, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was smiling at me.

٣٩٣٩ - وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُغَفّلٍ رضي الله عنه قَالَ: أَصَبْتُ2 جِرَابًا مِنْ شَحْمٍ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ،فَالْتَزَمْتُهُ، فَقُلْتُ: لَا أُعْطِي الْيَوْمَ أَحَدًا مِنْ هَذَا شَيْئًا، فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صلي الله عليه واله وسلم يَتَبَسَّمُ إِلَيّ. مُتَّفَقَّ عَلَيْهِ.

(2) The statement: “I obtained a sack of fat, etc.”: Ibn al-Malik said: This shows fighters may take needed food from the spoils. Eating food and using fat for the body or lamps are equivalent. As in (Al-Mirqat).

(٢) قوله: أصبت جرابا من شحم إلخ: قال ابن الملك: فيه جواز أخذ المجاهدين من طعام الغنيمة قدر ما يحتاج إليهاهـ. وتقدم أن الانتفاع بالادهان في البدن له حكم أكل الطعام. وقد يحتاج أيضًا إلى الشحم للسراج ونحوه. كذا في (المرقاة).
