Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): A man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, which sin is greatest in the sight of Allah?" The Prophet ﷺ replied: "To associate a partner with Allah, while He is the One who created you." The man asked, "Then what?" The Prophet ﷺ said: "To kill your child out of fear that he would share your food with you." The man asked, "Then what?" The Prophet ﷺ said: "To commit adultery with your neighbor's wife."
Then Allah revealed confirmation of this in His words:
"And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden, except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse." (Al-Furqan: 68)

٤٦ - عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُوْدٍ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَيُّ الذَّنْبِ أَكْبَرُ عِنْدَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: «أَنْ تَدْعُوَ لِلّهِ نِدًّا ، وَهُوَ خَلَقَكَ». قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَيٌّ؟ قَالَ: «أَنْ تَقْتُلَ وَلَدَكَ خَشْيَةَ أَنْ يَطْعَمَ مَعَكَ». قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَيٌّ؟ قَالَ: «أَنْ تُزَانِيَ حَلِيلَةَ جَارِكَ». فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَصْدِيقَهَا: {وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ وَلَا يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا يَزْنُونَ}(الفرقان: ٦٨) الآيَةَ. مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے ایک شخص نے دریافت کیا: یا رسول اللہ
کونسا گناہ اللہ کے نزدیک بہت بڑا ہے؟ فرمایا:(1) اللہ کے لئے تو شریک بنائے، حالانکہ اللہ نے تجھ
کو پیدا کیا ہے، اس نے کہا: اس کے بعد کونسا؟ ارشاد ہوا: تُو (2) اپنی اولاد کو اس اندیشہ سے قتل کرے
کہ وہ تیرے ساتھ کھائے گا، اس نے کہا: پھر کونسا؟ ارشاد ہوا:(3) اپنے پڑوسی کی بیوی سے زنا کرنا،
حضور کے اس فرمان کی تصدیق میں یہ آیت نازل ہوئی: ۞ وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللّٰهِ إِلٰهًا
فرقان، پ:19، ع:6، آیت نمبر:68، میں) جو لوگ خدا کے ساتھ کسی اور کو نہیں پکارتے اور اس جان کو
جس کا قتل اللہ نے حرام کیا ہے قتل نہیں کرتے مگر حق کے ساتھ (یعنی قصاص وغیرہ میں) اور نہ وہ زنا کرتے ہیں۔
