Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Indeed 1, Satan may take the form of a man and come to a people, narrating false speech to them. When they disperse, one of them says, “I heard a man whose face I recognize, but I do not know his name, narrating.”

Note 1
(1) His statement: “Indeed, Satan may take the form of a man…”: Al-Tayyibi said: This highlights the need to verify what is heard and to ascertain whether the speaker is truthful, permissible to narrate from, or a liar whose speech must be avoided, as it is stated: “It is sufficient for a man to be a liar that he narrates everything he hears.” [As stated in Al-Mirqat]
