Makhul narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The believers 1 are gentle and soft, like a camel with a nose-ring: if led, it follows, and if made to kneel on a rock, it kneels.”

٤٨٩٠ - وَعَنْ مَكْحُوْلٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ: «الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ1 هَيِّنُوْنَ لَيِّنُونَ كَالْجَمَلِ الْأَنفِ إِنْ قيد انْقَادَ، وَإِنْ أُنِيخَ عَلَى صَخْرَةٍ اسْتَنَاخَ». رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ مُرْسَلًا، وَالْبَيْهَقِيُّ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ لا مُتَّصِلًا مَرْفُوْعًا.

سیدنا مکحول رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے انہوں نے کہا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم
نے ارشاد فرمایا: مسلمان نرم مزاج، نرم زبان ہوتے ہیں جیسا ناک میں نکیل والا اونٹ ہوتا ہے 1؎ اگر اس کو
کھینچ کر لے جایا جائے تو فرمانبردار رہتا ہے اور اگر اسکو کسی چٹان پر بٹھایا جائے تو بیٹھ جاتا ہے۔ اسکی
روایت امام ترمذی نے مرسلا کی ہے اور امام بیہقی نے ابن عمر سے متصل اور مرفوع روایت کی ہے۔

(1) His statement: “The believers are gentle and soft, etc.”: In Sharh as-Sunnah, the meaning is that the believer is highly submissive to the Lawgiver in His commands and prohibitions. The statement “If made to kneel on a rock, it kneels” indicates enduring hardships, as kneeling on a rock is difficult. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
