Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Indeed 1, everything has a zeal and every zeal has a decline. If its owner is balanced and moderate, hope for him. But if he is pointed at with fingers, do not count him.”

Note 1
(1) His statement: “Indeed, everything has a zeal” – its explanation is that a person engages in matters with great eagerness and intense effort initially, followed by a decline. If he is moderate, cautious of excess and neglect, and follows the straight path, hope for him to be among the successful and perfected. But if he pursues excess to the point of being pointed at with fingers, do not regard or rely on him, for he may be among the ruined. However, do not assume he is among the losers, but do not hope for him as you would the moderate. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
