English

Ubayy ibn Ka‘b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when two-thirds of the night had passed 1, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood and said: “O people, remember Allah, remember Allah!

Note 1

when two-thirds of the night had passed, he stood

(1) His statement: “when two-thirds of the night had passed, he stood” – this provides a basis for those who remind, like muezzins, that they should not rise before two-thirds of the night have passed. It also indicates the strong desirability of standing in prayer during the last third of the night. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
