Chapter on Story of Ibn Sayyad

Zujajat al-Masabih 5285Volume 4

English

Nafi‘ narrated that Ibn Umar met Ibn Sayyad in one of the streets of Medina and said something that angered him, causing him to swell until he filled the path. Ibn Umar entered upon Hafsah, who had heard about it, and she said, “May Allah have mercy on you! What did you want with Ibn Sayyad? Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, ‘He will emerge from an anger he experiences’?”

Note 1

May Allah have mercy on you

(1) Her statement: “May Allah have mercy on you”: This is a supplicatory phrase indicating the permissibility of such for the living, though current custom differs. (As stated in Al-Mirqat) (2) His statement: “He will emerge from an anger he experiences”: Meaning, he will grow angry and emerge claiming prophethood. So, do not anger him, O Abdullah, or speak to him, lest he emerges and causes trials. Al-Tayyibi said: It means the Dajjal will emerge when angered. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
