Ma’n ibn Abd al-Rahman narrated: I heard my father say: I asked Masruq who permitted the Prophet (ﷺ) the jinn to listen to the Qur’an on the night they eavesdropped? He said: Your father told me—meaning Abdullah ibn Mas’ud—that he said: A tree permitted them. [Agreed Upon] Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: A Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: “How do I know you are a prophet?” He said: “If I call this cluster 2 from this palm tree until it bears witness that I am the Messenger of Allah.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) called it, and it descended from the palm tree until it fell to the Prophet (ﷺ). Then he said: “Return,” and it returned. The Bedouin embraced Islam. [Narrated by At-Tirmidhi, and he authenticated it.] Abu Musa narrated: Abu Talib set out to Sham, and the Prophet (ﷺ) went with him among some of Quraysh. When they reached the monk 3, they descended and pitched their tents. The monk came out to them. Previously, they had passed by him without him coming out. He went among them until he took the hand of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: “This is the master of the worlds, the Messenger of the Lord of the worlds. Allah will send him as a mercy to the worlds.” Quraysh elders said to him: “What is your knowledge?” He said: “When you appeared from the pass, no tree or stone remained but prostrated, and they prostrate only to a prophet. I recognize him by the seal of prophethood below his left shoulder like an apple.” Then he returned and prepared food for them. When he brought it, as he was tending camels, he said: “Send for him.” He came with a cloud shading him. When he neared the people, he found them had preceded him to the shade of a tree. When he sat, the tree’s shade leaned over him. He said: “Look at the tree’s shade leaning over him.” He adjured them by Allah: “Which of you is his guardian?” They said: “Abu Talib.” He kept adjuring him until Abu Talib returned him, sending Abu Bakr and Bilal with him. The monk provided him with bread and oil. [Narrated by At-Tirmidhi] Al-Jazari said: Its chain is authentic, and its narrators are trustworthy or one of them is. Mentioning Abu Bakr and Bilal is not preserved, and our imams counted it, and they are like that; the Prophet’s (ﷺ) age then was twelve years, Abu Bakr two years younger, and Bilal may not have been born then. It is possible it is interpolated, disconnected from another Hadith.
