Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to Al-Abbas: “On Monday morning, come to me with your sons so I may pray for you with a supplication that will benefit you and your sons.” We came in the morning, and he covered us with his cloak, then said: “O Allah, forgive Al-Abbas and his sons with a forgiveness, apparent and hidden, that leaves no sin. O Allah, 1 protect him through his sons.”

Note 1
(1) The statement “O Allah, protect him through his sons”: Meaning, honor him and look after his affairs so that he is not lost in matters concerning his sons. This is the meaning of Razin’s narration: “And make the caliphate endure in his descendants.” (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
Note 1
