It is narrated from Al-A'mash that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The affliction of knowledge is forgetfulness, and its loss is when you narrate it to those who are not its rightful people."
It is narrated from Sufyan 1 that Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Ka'b: "Who are the people of knowledge?" Ka'b replied: "Those who act upon what they know." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) then asked: "What causes knowledge to depart from the hearts of the scholars?" Ka'b answered: "Greed."
Al-Ahwas ibn Hakeem narrated from his father who said: A man asked the Prophet ﷺ about evil, and he said: “Do not ask me about evil, ask me about good.” He repeated this three times, then said: “Indeed, the worst of evil is the evil of the scholars, and the best of good is the good of the scholars.”
Ziyad ibn Hudayr narrated that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: “Do you know what destroys Islam?” I said: “No.” He said: “It is the mistakes of the scholars, the arguments of the hypocrites with the Book, and the rulings of misleading rulers.”
Hasan narrated: There are two types of knowledge: the knowledge in the heart, which is the beneficial knowledge, and the knowledge on the tongue, which is the proof of Allah (the Mighty and Majestic) over the son of Adam.
It is narrated from Abu Hurayra (may Allah by pleased with him): I have preserved from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ two containers of knowledge. As for one of them, I have spread it among you, and as for the other, if I were to spread it, this throat (meaning the food passage) would be cut off.

Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O people, whoever knows something, let him speak about it, and whoever does not know, let him say: 'Allah knows best.' For it is part of knowledge to say 'Allah knows best' about what you do not know." Allah, the Exalted, said to His Prophet: "Say, 'I do not ask you for it any reward, and I am not one of the pretentious.'" (Surah Sad, 86).
Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O gathering of Qurra (reciters), be upright, for you have gone ahead with a great lead, and if you take to the right or the left, you will be lost in a great error."
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Seek refuge with Allah from the pit of grief." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is the pit of grief?" He said: "It is a valley in Hell, from which Hell itself seeks refuge four hundred times a day." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, who will enter it?" He said: "The reciters who show off with their deeds." [Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi and also by Ibn Majah]
In the additional wording, he said: "And among the most hated of reciters to Allah are those who visit the rulers." Al-Muharibi said: "By this he means the tyrants."
Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "A time will soon come upon people when nothing will remain of Islam except its name, and nothing will remain of the Qur'an except its script. Their mosques will be full, yet they will be empty of guidance. Their scholars will be the worst of those under the sky. From them will emerge fitnah, and in them it will return."
Ziyad ibn Labid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet ﷺ mentioned something and then said: "That will be at the time when knowledge departs." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, how can knowledge depart when we recite the Qur'an, and we teach it to our children, and our children teach it to their children until the Day of Judgment?" He said: "May your mother mourn you, Ziyad! I used to think you were one of the most knowledgeable men in Madinah. Do not the Jews and the Christians read the Torah and the Gospel but do not act upon anything in them?"
Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: "Learn knowledge and teach it to the people. Learn the obligatory duties and teach them to the people. Learn the Qur'an and teach it to the people. Indeed, I am a man whose life is limited, and knowledge will be taken away. Fitnah will appear until two people will differ over an obligatory matter and will not find anyone to judge between them."
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The example of knowledge that is not benefited from is like the example of treasure that is not spent in the way of Allah."
