Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "1 Do not take the backs of your animals as pulpits, for Allah, the Exalted, has subjected them to you to carry you to a land you could not reach except with great difficulty, and He made the earth for you, so fulfill your needs upon it."

Note 1

Do not take the backs of your animals as pulpits

(1) The statement: "Do not take the backs of your animals as pulpits": Al-Khattabi said: It is established that the Prophet (ﷺ) delivered a sermon standing on his mount, indicating that standing on their backs for a need or to reach a goal that cannot be achieved by dismounting is permissible. The prohibition applies to standing on them without a valid reason, causing unnecessary strain to the animal. As stated in (Al-Mirqat).
