It is narrated from Ibn 'Abbas and Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with them) with an addition: "He said: 'O Muhammad, do you know what the highest assembly is disputing about?' I said: 'Yes, it is about the expiations.' The expiations are staying in the mosques after the prayer, walking on foot to congregational prayers, and perfecting ablution in difficult conditions. Whoever does this will live a good life and die a good death, and he will be free from sin as on the day his mother gave birth to him." He said: "O Muhammad, when you pray, say: 'O Allah, I ask You for the ability to do good deeds, to avoid evil deeds, and to love the poor.

Hadith 984

Volume 1

English

It is narrated from Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was delayed one morning from the Fajr prayer until we almost saw the sun. He came out quickly, and the Iqamah was called. He prayed and shortened his prayer. When he finished, he called out to us and said: "Stay in your rows as you are." Then he turned to us and said: "I will tell you what delayed me this morning. I got up at night, performed ablution, and prayed what was decreed for me. I dozed off during my prayer until I became heavy with sleep. Then I saw my Lord, the Blessed and Exalted, in the most beautiful form. He said: 'O Muhammad.' I said: 'Here I am, my Lord.' He said: 'What are the highest assembly disputing about?' I said: 'I do not know.' He repeated this three times. Then I felt His hand between my shoulders, and I felt the coolness of His fingers between my chest. Everything became clear to me, and I understood. He said: 'O Muhammad.' I said: 'Here I am, my Lord.' He said: 'What are the highest assembly disputing about?' I said: 'About the expiations.' He said: 'What are they?' I said: 'Walking on foot to congregational prayers, sitting in the mosques after the prayers, and perfecting ablution in difficult conditions.' He said: 'Then what?' I said: 'About the levels.' He said: 'What are they?' I said: 'Feeding others, speaking kindly, and praying at night while people are asleep.' He said: 'Ask.' I said: 'O Allah, I ask You for the ability to do good deeds, to avoid evil deeds, and to love the poor. Forgive me and have mercy on me. If You intend to test a people, take me to You without being tested. I ask for Your love, the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds that bring me closer to Your love.'" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "This is the truth, so study it and learn it." [Narrated by Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi, who said: "This is a good and authentic hadith." Note 1

Let him pray two Rak'ahs before sitting

(1) Explanation of the statement: "Let him pray two Rak'ahs before sitting": In Ad-Durr Al-Mukhtar and Rad Al-Muhtar, it is said: "It is recommended to greet the Lord of the mosque, which is two Rak'ahs. Performing an obligatory prayer or another prayer suffices for it without specific intention, and it suffices once per day. It is not invalidated by sitting, according to our view. They said in Al-Hakim: 'If a judge enters the mosque, he may pray the greeting upon entering or leaving, as the purpose is achieved,' as mentioned in Al-Ghayah. As for the hadith in the Sahihayn: 'When one of you enters the mosque, he should not sit until he prays two Rak'ahs,' it explains the first recommendation. This is supported by the hadith of Ibn Hibban in his Sahih: 'O Abu Dharr, the mosque has a greeting, and its greeting is two Rak'ahs. Stand and pray them.' The full explanation is in Al-Hilyah."

Note 1

Note 1

Note 1

Hadith 1003

Volume 1

English

It is narrated from Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) saw phlegm in the direction of the Qiblah, and it distressed him so much that it became visible on his face. He stood up and scraped it off with his hand, then said: "When one of you stands in prayer, he is indeed conversing with his Lord, and his Lord is between him and the Qiblah, so let none of you spit in the direction of the Qiblah, but rather to his left or under his foot." Then he took the edge of his garment, spat in it, folded it over, and said: "Or do like this."

Hadith 1004

Volume 1

English

It is narrated from Saʾib ibn Khallad (May Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him), that a man led his people in prayer and spat towards the Qiblah while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was watching. When he finished, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to his people: "He shall not lead you in prayer." Later, when he wished to lead them again, they prevented him and informed him of the Messenger of Allah’s words. The man then mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and he said: "Yes," and I think he also said: "Indeed, you have offended Allah and His Messenger."
