It is narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): "Can a woman pray in a dress and headscarf without wearing an undergarment (izar)?" He said: "Yes, if the dress is long enough to cover the tops of her feet." 1

(1) The statement: "It covers the tops of her feet." According to Abu Hanifah, the feet are part of the private area (awrah), and this is also the opinion of Ash-Shafi'i, based on this hadith. It is mentioned in Sharh An-Nuqayah. In Al-Khaniyyah, it is stated: "The correct view is that exposing a quarter of the foot invalidates the prayer, just like exposing other parts of the body that are considered private."

ف: اس حدیث سے ثابت ہوتا ہے کہ عورت کیلئے پشت قدم کو چھپانا فرض ہے (پشت قدم تلوے) اسی لئے امام ابوحنیفہ رحمہ اللہ علیہ نے فرمایا کہ عورت کے قدم بھی ستر میں داخل ہیں، اور اس حدیث کی وجہ سے امام شافعی رحمہ اللہ بھی اسی کے قائل ہیں۔ (یہ شرح الوقایہ میں مذکور ہے۔) عورت کا قدم ستر میں داخل ہونے کی وجہ سے خانیہ میں کہا ہے کہ نماز کے وقت عورت کے قدم کا چوتھائی حصہ دکھائی دینے سے نماز نہیں ہوگی جیسا کہ جسم کے دیگر اعضاء کا چوتھائی حصہ نظر آنے سے نماز جائز نہیں ہوتی ہے۔ البتہ نماز میں قدم یا کسی اور عضو کا چوتھائی حصہ سے کم حصہ دکھائی دے تو نماز ادا ہوجائے گی۔ (مرقات، عمدۃ الرعایۃ)۔
