It is narrated from Salamah bint Al-Hurr 1 (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Among the signs of the Hour is that the people of the mosque will push one another, and they will not find an imam to lead them in prayer." 2 [Narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, and Ibn Majah]
In a narration by Muslim: "If there are three people, let one of them lead them in prayer." Ali Al-Qari said: This indicates the permissibility of a less virtuous person leading the prayer.

١٥٠١ - وَعَنْ سَلَامَةَ بِنْتِ الْحُرِّ 1 (رضي الله عنها) قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ: «إِنَّ مِنْ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ أَنْ يَتَدَافَعَ أَهْلُ الْمَسْجِدِ ، لَا يَجِدُوْنَ إِمَامًا يُصَلِّي بِهِمْ. 2 رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ وَابْنُ مَاجَه.
وَفِي رِوَايَةِ مُسْلِمٍ: «إِذَا كَانُوا ثَلَاثَةً فَلْيَؤُمَهُمْ أَحَدُهُمْ». قَالَ عَلِيُّ الْقَارِي: فِيْهِ إِشَارَةٌ إِلَى جَوَازِ إِمَامَةِ الْمَفْضُوْلِ.

اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ قرب قیامت کی نشانیوں میں ایک نشانی یہ بھی ہے کہ (جہالت اور
مسائل سے ناواقفیت ایسی عام ہو جائے گی کہ) مسجد میں لوگ نماز کے لئے جمع ہوں گے، اور ہر ایک
خود نماز نہ پڑھا کر دوسرے کو نماز پڑھانے کہے گا (اور نااہل ہونے کی وجہ سے) کوئی ان کو نماز
پڑھانے والا نہیں ملے گا (اس سے معلوم ہوا کہ امامت کی اہلیت رکھنے کے باوجود امامت سے گریز
کرنا اور امامت نہ کرنا مکروہ ہے) اس حدیث کی روایت امام احمد، ابوداؤد اور ابن ماجہ نے کی ہے۔
اور مسلم کی روایت میں اس طرح ہے کہ تین شخص بھی ہوں تو ان میں کوئی ایک
امام بنے (اور ایک دوسرے پر نہ ڈھکیلیں)۔
