Chapter on The Night Prayer

Zujajat al-Masabih 1583Volume 1

English

Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "He saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) praying at night. He would say: 'Allahu Akbar' three times, then say: 'Possessor of the kingdom, power, majesty, and greatness.' Then he would begin his recitation with Surah Al-Baqarah. His bowing was nearly as long as his standing, and he would say in his bowing: 'Subhana Rabbiyal-'Adheem.' When he raised his head from bowing, his standing was nearly as long as his bowing, and he would say: 'Lillahil-hamd.' His prostration was nearly as long as his standing, and he would say in his prostration: 'Subhana Rabbiyal-A'la.' When he raised his head from prostration, he would sit between the two prostrations for nearly as long as his prostration, saying: 'Rabbi ighfir li, Rabbi ighfir li.' He prayed four rak'ahs, reciting Surah Al-Baqarah, Surah Al-Imran, Surah An-Nisa’, and Surah Al-Ma’idah or Surah Al-An’am – Shu’bah was uncertain."
