Chapter: Seeking Forgiveness and Repentance

Zujajat al-Masabih 2797Volume 2

English

Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The deceased in the grave is like a drowning person, waiting for a supplication to reach him from his father, mother, brother, or friend. When it reaches him, it is dearer to him than the world and all it contains. Indeed, Allah sends down upon the inhabitants of the graves gifts from the supplications of the living like mountains. The best gift the living can give to the dead is to seek forgiveness for them."

[Narrated by Al-Bayhaqi in Shu’ab Al-Iman]
