Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: "I seek refuge in Allah from disbelief and debt." A man asked: "O Messenger of Allah, do you equate debt with disbelief?" He said: "Yes." In another version: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief and poverty." A man asked: "Are they equal?" He said: "Yes."
