Note 1

I would not abandon the practice of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) for your opinion.

(1) His statement: “I would not abandon the practice of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) for your opinion.” Shaykh Ibn al-Humam said: “What reconciles the narrations of Ifrad (performing Hajj alone) and Tamattu’ (combining Hajj and Umrah with a break) is that the narrations of Ifrad may have come from those who heard him (ﷺ) making Talbiyah for Hajj alone. Know that there is no issue in mentioning only one rite in the Talbiyah or not mentioning any, while intending Qiran (combining both rites). This is similar to the difference in narrations regarding whether his (ﷺ) Talbiyah was after prayer, when his mount stood upright, or when he ascended Al-Bayda’, as previously mentioned in the beginning of the chapter on Ihram.” Al-Hafiz concluded: “The narrations supporting Qiran are stronger due to several reasons,” including that none of the narrations say, “I performed Ifrad” or “I performed Tamattu’,” but rather, “I performed Qiran.” Additionally, the narrations of Qiran are explicit, unlike those of Ifrad or Tamattu’, which can be interpreted differently. Furthermore, Qiran is narrated by over ten Companions with strong chains, unlike Ifrad and Tamattu’. This removes doubt, and the preferred view is that Qiran is superior to Ifrad and Tamattu’, as held by many Companions, Tabi’in, and scholars like Abu Hanifah and Al-Muzani.
