Ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Whoever swears an oath in which he is immoral, seizing a Muslim’s property with it, and meets Allah on the Day of Resurrection while He is angry with him. So Allah revealed, confirming it: Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price [Aal-E-Imran: 77], to the end of the verse.

Note 1
(1) Regarding the saying: Whoever swears a deliberate false oath, etc.: A deliberate false oath is one where the person intentionally lies to seize a Muslim’s property, as if restraining himself to that oath, as indicated by the saying: He is immoral, meaning a liar, with the phrase being circumstantial. This shows that lying in testimony is a form of immorality, referring to the ghamus oath. Gathered from al-Marqah. In Badhl al-Majhud, Ibn Battal said: This verse and hadith are evidence for the majority’s view that the ghamus oath has no expiation, as the Prophet (ﷺ) mentioned its intent, sin, punishment, and disobedience without mentioning expiation, unlike the contracted oath, where he said: Let him expiate his oath and do what is better. Ibn al-Mundhir said: We know no Sunnah indicating those who require expiation, like al-Shafi‘i, but it supports those who do not, like Abu Hanifa.
