except for the space of two, three, or four fingers

(1) The statement: except for the space of two, three, or four fingers: It is said in Al-Marqah: This narration permits the use of silk markings on clothing if they do not exceed four fingers, and this is the opinion of the majority. Qadi Khan narrated from Bishr, from Abu Yusuf, from Abu Hanifah: There is no harm in silk markings on clothing if they are four fingers or less, and no disagreement is reported on this.
