Amr bin Shuaib narrated from his father from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (ﷺ) used to trim his beard 1 from its width and length [Narrated by Tirmidhi]. Muhammad narrated in Kitab al-Athar from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he used to grasp his beard and cut what was below the grasp, and he said: This is what we follow, and it is the opinion of Abu Hanifah.

٤٣٠١ - وَعَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيْهِ عَنْ جَدِّه رضي الله عنه أَنَّ النَبِيَّ صلي الله عليه واله وسلم انَ يَأْخُذُ1 مِنْ لِحْيَتِهِ مِنْ عَرْضِهَا وَطُولِهَا. رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ.
وَرَوَى مُحَمَّدٌ فِي( كِتَابِ الْآثَارِ) عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رضي الله عنهما أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقْبِضُ عَلَى لِحِيَتِهِ ثُمَّيَقُصُّ مَا تَحْتَ الْقُبْضَةِ، وَقَالَ: وَبِهِ نَأْخُذُ، وَهُوَ قَوْلُ أَبِيْ حَنِيْفَةَ.

سیدنا عمرو بن شعیب اپنے والد سے وہ ان کے دادا سے روایت کرتے ہیں
نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنی داڑھی مبارک کے طول و عرض میں 2 سے لیتے تھے۔ (ترمذی)
سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ آپ اپنی داڑھی کو
ہاتھ سے پکڑتے پھر جو ایک مشت کے نیچے ہوتی اس کو کاٹ دیتے۔
امام محمد نے، اس کو کتاب الآثار میں روایت کیا، اور فرمایا ہم اسی کو اختیار کرتے ہیں یہ
امام ابوحنیفہ رحمہ اللہ تعالیٰ کا قول ہے۔

(1) The statement: "used to trim his beard from its width and length": Therefore, our jurists said: There is no issue with trimming the edges of the beard, and the Sunnah is the grasp, meaning a man grasps his beard, and what exceeds the grasp is cut. Thus, Muhammad stated in Kitab al-Athar from the Imam, saying: This is what we follow [Muhit]. This is derived from Al-Durr al-Mukhtar and Radd al-Muhtar.
