Note 1
(1) The statement: "severest punishment": In Radd al-Muhtar: This distinguishes between demeaned and non-demeaned images in possession, but making images is absolutely impermissible as it mimics Allah’s creation.
Note 2
(2) The statement: "mimic Allah’s creation": This explains the majority’s view limiting image-makers to those depicting living beings, as their creation cannot be attributed to human action literally or metaphorically, unlike plants or inanimate objects, where one might say, for example, someone grew a tree or made a ship. However, depicting what is worshipped besides Allah, even inanimate, like the sun or moon, should be prohibited. Thus, it is stated in Al-Mirqat.
Note 1
