Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “When 1 one of you arrives at a gathering, let him offer the greeting of peace. If he chooses to sit, let him sit. Then, when he leaves, let him offer the greeting, for the first is no more entitled than the last.”

٤٤٧٧ - وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ (رضي الله عنه) عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: «إِذَا1 انْتَهَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى مَجْلِسٍ فَلْيُسَلِّمْ، فَإِنْ بَدَا لَهُ أَنْ يَجْلِسَ فَلْيَجْلِسُ، ثُمَّ إِذَا قَامَ فَلْيُسَلِّمْ فَلَيْسَتِ الْأُولَى بِأَحَقَّ مِنَ الْآخِرَةِ». رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ وَأَبُوْ دَاوُدَ.

سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ارشاد
فرمایا: تم میں کا کوئی جب کسی مجلس2 میں پہنچے تو سلام کرے۔ پس اگر اس کو بیٹھنے کا خیال ہو تو بیٹھ جائے پھر
جب کھڑا ہو تو سلام کرے کیونکہ پہلا سلام دوسرے سلام کی نسبت زیادہ حق نہیں رکھتا۔ (ترمذی، ابوداؤد)

(1) His statement: “When one of you arrives at a gathering, let him offer the greeting, etc.”: Al-Shashi said: “The greeting is a Sunnah upon departure just as it is upon meeting, and responding is obligatory in both cases. This is the correct view.” As stated in Al-Mirqat.

(۱) قوله: إذا انتهى أحدكم إلى مجلس فليسلم إلخ : قال الشاشي : إن السلام سنة عند الانصراف، كما هو سنة عند اللقاء، فكما يجب الرد عند اللقاء كذلك عند الانصراف. وهذا هو الصحيح. كذا في «المرقاة».
