Umm Kulthum bint Uqbah ibn Abi Mu’ayt (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: “The liar is not who reconciles between people, speaking good or promoting good.” [Agreed Upon] Muslim added: She said: “I did not hear him 1—meaning the Prophet (ﷺ)—permit anything people say except three: war, reconciling between people, and a man’s speech to his wife, a woman’s to her husband.”

٤٨٤٨ - وَعَنْ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتِ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي مُعَيْطٍ (رضي الله عنها) قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُوْلَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُوْلُ: «لَيْسَ الْكَذَّابُ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ وَ يَقُوْلُ خَيْرًا وَيَنْمِي خَيْرًا». مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ،
وَزَادَ مُسْلِمُ: قَالَتْ: وَلَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ تَعْنِي1 النَّبِيَّ لا يُرَخّصُ فِي شَيْءٍ مِمَّا يَقُوْلُ النَّاسُ إِلَّا فِي ثَلَاثٍ: الْحَرْبُ وَالْإِصْلَاحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ وَحَدِيثُ الرَّجُلِ امْرَأَتَهُ وَحَدِيْثُ الْمَرْأَةِ زَوْجَهَا.

سیدتنا ام کلثوم بنت عقبہ بن ابی معیط رضی اللہ عنہا سے روایت ہے
انہوں نے فرمایا: میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ارشاد فرماتے ہوئے سنا: وہ شخص جھوٹا نہیں جو
لوگوں کے درمیان صلح کراتا ہے، خیر کہتا ہے اور خیر کو پہنچاتا ہے۔ (متفق علیہ)۔
اور امام مسلم نے زیادہ کیا ام کلثوم نے کہا: میں آپ سے یعنی نبی
اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے لوگوں کو ان کی 1 گفتگو میں جھوٹ کی اجازت دیتے ہوئے نہیں سنی
سوائے تین کے، جنگ میں، لوگوں کے درمیان صلح میں اور آدمی کی اسکی بیوی سے گفتگو میں اور بیوی
کی اسکے شوہر سے گفتگو میں۔

(1) His statement: “meaning the Prophet (ﷺ) permits…”: Meaning, lying is not permissible except exceptions, which are euphemisms. At ours, four: reconciliation, repelling oppressor, pleasing wife, war for victory. Ibn Wahban mentioned in verse: Lying permitted for reconciliation or repelling oppressor, Pleasing wife or war to triumph. Supports some moderate Hadiths excepting four. Qadi Khan said: Lying to save Muslim blood or strengthen weak Muslim is permitted. [As stated in Ad-Durr al-Mukhtar and Radd al-Muhtar]
