Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that it was said to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): “What about a man who does a good deed 1 and people praise him for it?” – and in another narration: “and people love him for it” – He said: “That is the immediate glad tidings of the believer.”

٥١١٤ - وَعَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قِيْلَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ : أَرَأَيْتَ الرَّجُلَ يَعْمَلُ الْعَمَلَ مِنْ1 الْخَيْرِ وَيَحْمَدُهُ النَّاسُ عَلَيْهِ؟ - وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ وَيُحِبُّهُ النَّاسُ عَلَيْهِ - قَالَ: تِلْكَ عَاجِلُ بُشْرَى الْمُؤْمِنِ». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.

سیدنا ابوذر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے انہوں نے فرمایا:
حضرت رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے عرض کیا گیا: آپ کیا فرماتے ہیں اس شخص کے بارے میں
جو اچھا عمل کرتا 2 ہے اور لوگ اس عمل پر اس کی تعریف کرتے ہیں اور ایک روایت میں ہے لوگ اس عمل
کی وجہ اس سے محبت کرتے ہیں؟ آپ نے فرمایا وہ مومن کے لئے فوری خوشخبری ہے۔ (مسلم)۔

(1) His statement: “a good deed” clarifies it. It is known that there is no good in a deed done for showing off, so his deed is sincere. Al-Muzhir said: It means, inform us about one who does a righteous deed for Allah, not for people, and they praise him – does this nullify his reward? He said: “That is the immediate glad tidings of the believer,” meaning he is not showing off in that deed, so Allah grants him two rewards: in this world, people’s praise, and in the Hereafter, what is prepared for him. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

(۱) قوله: من الخير بيان له، ومن المعلوم أن لا خير في العمل للرياء، فيكون عمله خالصًا. وقال المظهر: أي أخبرنا بحال من عمل عملا صالحا الله تعالى لا للناس، ويمدحونه هل يبطل ثوابه ؟ فقال : «تلك عاجل بشرى المؤمن»، يعني هو في عمله ذلك ليس مرائيا، فيعطيه الله تعالى به ثوابين في الدنيا، وهو حمد الناس له، وفي الآخرة ما أعد له. كذا في «المرقاة».
