Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “What will it be like when you remain among the dregs of people whose covenants and trustworthiness have become confused, and they differ 1, becoming like this,” and he interlaced his fingers. He said: “What do you command me?” He said: “Hold to what you recognize, abandon what you disapprove of, focus on your own affairs, and avoid the affairs of the masses.”
In another narration: “Stay in your home, control your tongue, take what you recognize, leave what you disapprove of, focus on your own affairs, and leave the affairs of the masses.”

٥١٨٣ - وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ (رضي الله عنهما)أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ: «كَيْفَ إِذَا بَقِيتَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مَرَجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ، وَاخْتَلَفُوا 1 فَكَانُوْا هَكَذَا»، وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ؟ قَالَ: فَبِمَا تَأْمُرُنِي؟ قَالَ: «عَلَيْكَ بِمَا تَعْرِفُ، وَتَدَعُ مَا تُنْكِرُ، وَعَلَيْكَ بِخَاصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ، وَإِيَّاكَ وَعَوَامَهُمْ».
وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ: الْزَمْ بَيْتَكَ وَامْلِكْ عَلَيْكَ لِسَانَكَ، وَخُذْ بِمَا تَعْرِفُ وَدَعْ مَا تُنْكِرُ، وَعَلَيْكَ بِأَمْرِ خَاصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ وَدَعْ أَمْرَ الْعَامَّةِ». رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ وَصَحَّحَهُ.

سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمرو بن العاص رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے روایت ہے،
نبی اکرم ﷺ نے فرمایا: تمہارا کیا حال ہوگا جب تم لوگوں کے بھوسے میں رہ جاؤ گے اور ان کے
عہد و پیمان اور امانتیں گڈمڈ ہو جائیں گی اور وہ آپس میں اختلاف1 کریں گے اور وہ اس طرح
ہو جائیں گے، آپ نے اپنی انگلیوں کے درمیان جال ڈالا تو انہوں نے عرض کیا: آپ مجھے کیا حکم
فرماتے ہیں: تو آپ نے فرمایا: تم اس چیز کو جس کو تم نیکی جانتے ہو اختیار کرو اور جس کو تم برائی سمجھتے
ہو اس کو چھوڑ دو اور تم خاص اپنے نفس کو اختیار کرلو اور عوام کے معاملات سے اپنے کو علیحدہ کرلو۔
اور ایک روایت میں ہے اپنے گھر کو لازم کرلو اور اپنی زبان کو اپنے اوپر
قابو میں رکھو اور جو نیکی تم جانتے ہو اس کو اختیار کرلو اور جس کو تم برائی سمجھتے ہو اس کو چھوڑ دو اور تم خاص
اپنے نفس کو اختیار کرلو اور عوام کا معاملہ چھوڑ دو۔ (ترمذی) اور امام ترمذی نے اس کو صحیح قرار دیا ہے۔
