Nafi‘ narrated: Two men came to Ibn Umar during the turmoil 1 of Ibn az-Zubayr, saying: “The people have done what you see, and you are Ibn Umar, a companion of the Prophet (ﷺ). What prevents you from going out?” He said: “What prevents me is that Allah has forbidden the blood of my brother.” They said: “Did Allah not say: ‘And fight them until there is no turmoil’?” Ibn Umar said: “We fought until there was no turmoil, and the religion was for Allah. You want to fight until there is turmoil and the religion is for other than Allah.”

(1) His statement “during the turmoil of Ibn az-Zubayr”: meaning before his killing. His statement “and you are Ibn Umar”: meaning you were a candidate for caliph and a companion of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), also among his companions, so we do not doubt you are more entitled to the caliphate than Abd al-Malik, whose commanders include Al-Hajjaj. “What prevents you from going out”: meaning against him, given his evident oppression. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

(۱) قوله: في فتنة ابن الزبير : أي قبل قتله. وقوله: وأنت ابن عمر أي وقد كان خليفة وصاحب رسول الله ﷺ يعني ومن أصحابه أيضًا، فلا نشك أنك من الوجهين أولى بالخلافة من عبد الملك الذي من جملة أمرائه الحجاج، فما يمنعك أن تخرج أي عليه لظهور كمال ظلمه. كذا في «المرقاة».

(32) قوله: في فتنة ابن الزبير. یعنی آپ کی شہادت سے پہلے وقوله: انت ابن عمر. یعنی حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ خلیفہ کے بیٹے ہیں۔ اور آپ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے صحابہ میں سے ہیں پس ہم کو اس میں شک نہیں ہے کہ آپ ان دونوں وجہ سے عبدالملک سے جس کے گورنروں میں حجاج ہے خلافت کے زیادہ حقدار ہیں اس کے خلاف بغاوت کرنے سے آپ کو کیا چیز روک رہی ہے کیونکہ اس کا انتہائی ظلم ظاہر ہوچکا ہے۔ (مرقات)
