Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: We were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on the day 1 of the conquest of Makkah, and he said: “Whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe, and whoever lays down his weapon is safe.” The Ansar said: “As for the man, he has been overtaken by compassion for his clan and desire for his town.” Revelation came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he said: “You said: ‘As for the man, he has been overtaken by compassion for his clan and desire for his town.’ Nay, I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger. I migrated to Allah and to you. My life is your life, and my departure is your departure.” They said: “By Allah, we only said this out of protectiveness for Allah and His Messenger.” He said: “Indeed, Allah and His Messenger believe you and accept your excuse.”
