It is narrated from him (Ibn Abbas) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
"Whoever speaks about the Qur'an based on his own opinion, let him take his seat in the Fire."
In another narration: "Whoever speaks about the Qur'an without knowledge, let him take his seat in the Fire."
It is narrated from Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever speaks about the Qur'an based on his own opinion, and if he is correct, he has still made a mistake."

It is narrated from Amr ibn Shu'aib, from his father, from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (ﷺ) heard a group of people disputing about the Qur'an. He said: "Those who came before you were destroyed by this. They used to strike parts of the Book of Allah against one another. The Book of Allah was revealed to confirm what came before it. So do not contradict some of it with others. Whatever you know of it, speak about it, and what you do not know, leave it to the scholars."
It is narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The Qur'an was revealed in seven dialects. For each verse of it, there is an outer and an inner meaning, and for each limit, there is a point of emergence."
It is narrated from Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Knowledge is of three types: a clear verse, an established Sunnah, or a just obligation. Anything beyond that is a matter of grace."

It is narrated from 'Awf ibn Malik al-Ashj'ei (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Only a leader, an appointed person, or one who is arrogant may tell stories."

It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever gives a fatwa without knowledge, the sin will be on the one who asked him. And whoever advises his brother with something, knowing that the right course of action is elsewhere, he has betrayed him."

It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Learn the obligatory duties (fara'id) and the Qur'an, and teach them to the people, for I am about to be taken away."
It is narrated from Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that we were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he raised his gaze towards the sky, then said: "This is a time when knowledge will be taken away from the people, so that they will not be able to find any of it."
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) in a narration: "People will soon travel far and wide, seeking knowledge, but will find no one more knowledgeable than the scholar of Madinah." [Narrated by al-Tirmidhi]
In collection of Tirmidhi, Ibn Uyaynah said: "This refers to Malik ibn Anas." Similarly, 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated it, and Ishaq ibn Musa mentioned that Ibn Uyaynah said: "This refers to 'Abd al-Aziz ibn Abdullah al-Umari, the ascetic."

It is narrated from him (Abu Huraira, RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, if religion were hanging from the Pleiades, a man from Persia would attain it." [Agreed upon]
Al-Tabarani narrated a similar version from Qays ibn Sa'd ibn Ubadah, with a slight variation: "If knowledge were hanging, a man from Persia would attain it." Al-Hafiz al-Suyuti said: "This hadith, narrated by the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim], is the foundation of the authenticity upon which Abu Hanifah is indicated. There is no doubt in its correctness." In the margin notes of al-Shabr Malisi on al-Mawahib, the Shami scholar (a student of al-Hafiz al-Suyuti) said: "Our Shaykh has confirmed that Abu Hanifah is indeed the one intended in this hadith, and there is no doubt about it, for no one from the descendants of Persia has reached the level of knowledge he attained."

It is narrated from Ibrahim ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Udhri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "This knowledge will be carried by every generation of trustworthy scholars. They will remove from it the distortion of the extremists, the misappropriations of the false claimants, and the misinterpretations of the ignorant."
It is narrated from al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him), as a mursal (unattributed) hadith, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever dies while seeking knowledge to revive Islam, there is between him and the Prophets one level in Paradise."
It is narrated from him (al-Hasan, RA) as a mursal hadith, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about two men from the Children of Israel. One was a scholar who prayed the obligatory prayers, then sat to teach people goodness, and the other was one who fasted during the day and prayed at night. Which of the two was superior? The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) replied: "The superiority of the scholar who prays the obligatory prayers and then sits to teach people goodness is over the worshiper who fasts during the day and prays at night, as my superiority over the lowest among you."
It is narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "How excellent is the person who has deep knowledge in religion! If people turn to him, he benefits them, and if they are not in need of him, he enriches himself."
It is narrated from Ikrimah that Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
"Talk to the people once every Friday. If you refuse, then twice, and if you exceed, then three times. Do not bore the people with this Qur'an. Do not come to the people while they are in conversation, and interrupt them with your narration. Do not make them weary, but listen, and when they ask you, then narrate to them what they desire. And avoid the rhyme in supplication, for I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his companions never doing so."
It is narrated from Wa'ilah ibn al-Asbah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever seeks knowledge and attains it, he will have two rewards. If he does not attain it, he will have one reward."
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Among the things that benefit a believer after his death are the knowledge he taught and spread, a righteous child he left behind, a Qur'an he bequeathed, a mosque he built, a house for travelers he built, a river he dug, or a charity he gave from his wealth while he was healthy and alive. These things continue to benefit him after his death."
It is narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with him) that she heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: "Indeed, Allah, the Almighty, has revealed to me that whoever treads a path in seeking knowledge, I will make the path to Paradise easy for him. Whoever seeks to acquire two noble qualities (of good character), I will establish him upon them in Paradise. The merit of knowledge is better than the merit of worship, and the foundation of religion is piety."
It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:
"Studying knowledge for an hour during the night is better than spending the entire night in prayer."
It is narrated from Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) passed by two groups in his mosque. He said: "Both of them are upon good, but one of them is better than the other. The first group is praying to Allah and seeking His blessings. If He wills, He gives them, and if He wills, He withholds from them. As for the second group, they are studying fiqh (or knowledge) and teaching it to the ignorant. They are better, for indeed I was sent as a teacher." Then he sat among them.
It is narrated from Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was asked: "O Messenger of Allah, what is the most beloved type of knowledge that when a person attains it, he becomes a scholar?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) replied: "Whoever memorizes forty hadiths from my ummah regarding their religious matters, Allah will raise him as a scholar, and I will be his intercessor and witness on the Day of Judgment."
It is narrated from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Do you know who is the most generous in generosity?" They replied: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "Allah, the Almighty, is the most generous in generosity. Then I am the most generous of the children of Adam, and the most generous after me is a person who learns knowledge and spreads it. He will come on the Day of Judgment as a leader alone," or he said, "as a single community."
It is narrated from him (Anas) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "There are two types of people who will never be satisfied: the one who is greedy for knowledge, and the one who is greedy for the world. The one who seeks knowledge will never be satisfied with it, and the one who seeks the world will never be satisfied with it." [Narrated by al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman]
Imam Ahmad said regarding the hadith of Abu Darda: "This text is well known among the people, but it does not have an authentic chain of narration."
It is narrated from Awn that Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
"There are two types of people who will never be satisfied: the scholar and the seeker of the world. They are not equal. The scholar grows in contentment with Allah, while the seeker of the world continues in rebellion. Then Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) recited: 'No! Indeed, man transgresses when he sees himself as self-sufficient.'" (Quran, 96:6)
He also said: "Indeed, the scholars are the ones who truly fear Allah from among His servants."
It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Indeed, there will be some people from my Ummah who will seek knowledge in religion and recite the Quran. They will say, 'We will go to the rulers to take a portion of their world, and we will keep our religion separate from them.' But this will not be like the thorns of the plant al-Qatad, from which nothing can be gathered except thorns. Likewise, nothing will be gained from being close to them except sin." [Narrated by Ibn Majah}
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:
"If the people of knowledge had safeguarded their knowledge and placed it with those who deserved it, they would have dominated the people of their time. But instead, they gave it to the people of the world to gain from their worldly affairs, and so it became trivialized for them. I heard your Prophet (ﷺ) say: 'Whoever makes his concerns one concern, the concern of his Hereafter, Allah will take care of his worldly concerns. And whoever is overwhelmed with the various concerns of this world, Allah will not care in which valley he perishes.'"
