Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to say when he saw the new moon: "A crescent of goodness and guidance, a crescent of goodness and guidance, a crescent of goodness and guidance. I believe in the One Who created you" (three times), then he would say: "Praise be to Allah Who has taken away such-and-such month and brought such-and-such month."

۲۸۹۸ - وَعَنْ قَتَادَة (رضي الله عنه) بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ رَسُوْلَ اللهِ الله كَانَ إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلَالَ قَالَ: «هِلَالُ خَيْرٍ وَرُشْدٍ، هِلَالُ خَيْرٍ وَرُشْدٍ ، هِلَالُ خَيْرٍ وَرُشْدٍ، آمَنْتُ بِالَّذِي خَلَقَكَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي ذَهَبَ بِشَهْرِ كَذَا وَجَاءَ بِشَهْرٍ كَذَا». رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ.د

حضرت قتادہ رحمۃ اللہ علیہ سے روایت ہے کہ ان کو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ
وسلم سے یہ روایت پہنچی ہے کہ آپ جب ہلال دیکھتے تو یوں فرماتے:
یہ بھلائی اور ہدایت کا چاند ہے۔ یہ بھلائی اور ہدایت کا چاند ہے۔ یہ بھلائی اور ہدایت کا چاند
ہے (میں اس ذات پر ایمان لاتا ہوں جس نے تجھے پیدا کیا) اور اس کو بھی تین بار فرماتے پھر
تمام تعریفیں اللہ تعالیٰ ہی کے لئے ہیں جو اس مہینہ کو لے گیا اور فلاں مہینہ لایا۔
اس کی روایت ابوداؤد نے کی ہے۔
