Commentary and footnotes (6)

Note 1

An obvious need

(1) "An obvious need" refers to lacking provisions and a mount—the undisputed conditions for obligation. (Al-Mirqat)

Note 2

A tyrannical ruler

(2) "A tyrannical ruler" includes danger on the road (e.g., robbery or killing). Safety is a condition for performance (not obligation) according to the preferred view. (Al-Mirqat)

Note 3

A debilitating illness

(3) "A debilitating illness" makes Hajj non-obligatory (the correct view). Some say it prevents performance. Thus, the blind, paralyzed, chronically ill, elderly unable to ride, and those with severed limbs are exempt. (Al-Mirqat)

Note 1

Note 2
