Chapter on Keeping Promises

Zujajat al-Masabih 4684Volume 4

English

Zaid ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “If a man makes a promise to another, and neither comes until the time of prayer, and the one who came leaves to pray, there is no sin on him 1.”
Commentary and footnotes (2)

Note 1

there is no sin on him

(1) His statement: “there is no sin on him”: meaning, on the one who came to fulfill his promise and left to pray during the other’s absence, as prayer is a religious necessity. It is apparent that this applies if he leaves for bodily necessities like eating, drinking, or relieving himself, and the like. [As stated in Al-Mirqat]
