Note 1
(1) A resident or traveler may perform voluntary prayers while riding outside city limits, gesturing in whichever direction the mount faces, even if it does not initially face the Qibla. This is because if prayer is valid without facing the Ka’bah, it is also permissible to begin without facing it. ‘Bahr’ clarifies this and contrasts it with Al-Shafi’i’s view, which requires facing the Qibla initially, as mentioned in ‘Al-Sharnabalaliah.’ It is also noted in ‘Al-Hilyah’ from ‘Ghayat Al-Suruji’ that this is the narration of Ibn al-Mubarak, and it is mentioned in ‘Jawami’ Al-Fiqh.’ After citing the Hadiths, it is concluded that the preferred view is to recommend this practice when there is no hardship, based on the Hadith of Anas. ‘Al-Durr Al-Mukhtar’ and ‘Al-Ikhtiyar’ are derived from these sources.
